Discount formula
sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). Stacked discounts are applied one after another, not added: 25% off and then an extra 10% off is price × 0.75 × 0.90 — a total of 32.5% off, not 35%. Tax is then added on the discounted price: final = sale price × (1 + tax ÷ 100).
Tip formula
tip = bill × tip % ÷ 100, total = bill + tip and per person = total ÷ people. With rounding on, each share is rounded up to the next whole unit and the extra goes to the tip. In the US, 15–20% is customary for table service; many other countries include service in the bill.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Etiquette guides usually suggest tipping on the pre-tax subtotal — enter that as the bill amount if you prefer.
